About UPS & Our Culture

The outbound dock is where UPS's delivery promise becomes real. Every trailer that pulls away from a UPS fulfillment center dock door carries the expectation of millions of customers that their package will arrive on time — and it is our Outbound Associates who load those trailers with the precision and pace that make that expectation a consistent reality. At UPS, outbound work is not just loading boxes into a truck. It is building loads that protect packages across hundreds of miles of highway travel, executing departure schedules that feed the entire downstream delivery network, and doing all of it to the Teamsters union standard that makes UPS outbound work some of the most compensated hourly dock work in the logistics industry.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"Outbound is the hardest physical work in the building and the most satisfying. When my trailer is full, sealed, and rolls out the door on time, I feel the weight of what I just accomplished. UPS's load methods are genuinely efficient once you learn them — I can build a better load faster now than I could have imagined in my first week. The Teamsters wages for outbound work are among the strongest in any outbound associate job I have researched, and the union protection means I never have to worry about being treated unfairly." - Current Outbound Associate, Baltimore, MD.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Outbound Associate, you build and complete outbound trailer loads from sorted package output inside our fulfillment center, maximizing load density while protecting every package from transit damage and releasing every trailer on its hard departure schedule without exception.

• Trailer Load Building: Construct outbound loads by stacking packages from floor to ceiling in the correct weight-distribution and fragility-protection sequence — heavy items on the floor, fragile items cushioned and top-positioned, void space minimized to prevent package shift during highway transit.
• Departure Deadline Management: Track each trailer's hard departure time across your shift, prioritizing load completion based on which doors need to roll first, communicating loading status proactively to the shipping associate team to prevent any departure delay.
• Load Quality Standards: Build every trailer to UPS load quality specifications — no overhangs, no crush stacking, no fragile items under heavy ones — inspecting your finished load before signaling the shipping team to apply the outbound seal.

Benefits & Perks

UPS Outbound Associates earn Teamsters union wages, full medical, dental, and vision benefits, pension contributions, paid personal days, and UPS Earn & Learn tuition assistance. Outbound associates who consistently hit departure targets and load quality scores are among the first considered for lead associate and supervisor advancement opportunities within the UPS operations ladder.
